At WrightWay Polo, we’re passionate about introducing riders to the incredible world of polo. Whether you're brand new to riding or already an equestrian athlete, our program is designed to build both polo skills and horsemanship fundamentals. Through personalized instruction, structured practice, and a supportive team environment, we help students grow with confidence—on and off the field.
“Polo is more than a sport — it’s a bond between horse and rider, built on trust, timing, and heart.”
~ Erik Wright
Our goal is to create skilled, safe, and smart polo players from the ground up. The WrightWay Polo offers a progressive learning experience designed for all levels—from absolute beginners to developing competitors.
Each lesson is tailored to the rider’s age, experience, and goals. Whether you're trying polo for the first time or polishing your skills for tournament play, our instructors will guide you with expert, one-on-one support.
Learn to ride and handle a polo pony confidently
Understand the rules and flow of the game
Practice hitting techniques and defensive strategies
Build your confidence, teamwork, and horsemanship
Twice a year, we meet with each student (and parents, if applicable) for goal-setting and feedback. We review progress, set new challenges, and outline the next steps in their development—whether it’s their first chukker or preparing for team play.
Students have the option to track their growth through personalized progress cards. These tools help our riders stay focused, celebrate milestones, and build toward their next level of play at their own pace.
We believe every milestone matters. From first-time riders to first tournament goals, we recognize our students' hard work and achievements through awards, shoutouts, and team events that strengthen our supportive community.
Have questions? We've got answers to help you feel confident before your first ride.
Our program is designed to be tailored to suit you, from beginners to regular riders, we walk you through every step- no pressure, just fun! Our favorite horses have years of experience showing brand new riders the game and are really the best teachers.
Close-toe boots (heels under 1 inch) and long pants (jeans, riding pants, etc) are required. If you do not own a helmet we will provide one along with all of the other polo gear.
We love when people come with a friend(s)! This is a team sport so it is way more fun when you get to learn with others. Careful though, we have seen people get very competitive on the field. As Erik likes to say ‘we are all friends after the game!
Yes! We love working with young riders and offer safe, structured youth sessions for ages 8 and up.
All lessons take place at our facility in Petaluma, just off the 101, about an hour from San Francisco.
Arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled lesson time and take a few minutes to use the restroom, hydrate, etc, before meeting our instructors. We will get you situated with all the things you need (helmet and mallet) before mounting up. Once aboard we will go over basics- such as holding the reins and mallet, steering, and stopping. Next we tend to cover riding and hitting basics, then move on to basic defensive maneuvers. If you are comfortable, and time allows, we may try some things at a trot. All intro to polo lessons include admission to a match- so we encourage you to stick around or come back and watch (if scheduling permits) once you are done!
We provide the horse, the equipment, and the coaching. All you need is curiosity.
